Trick or Treat (Yo’ Self): Nutella Mummy Hand Pies & a Pod to Match
These ghoulish goodies are vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, and made with just a handful of pantry pals. That means less waste, more taste, and way more time to plan your Halloween costume. (We call dibs on barista ghosts.)
What’s Inside These Sweet Little Spooks?
- Vegan puff pastry - ready-rolled and planet-friendly
- Vegan Nutella - homemade or store-bought, as long as it’s creamy and cocoa-hazelnutty
- Fresh banana slices - for that sweet, fruity kick
- Dairy-free milk - as your egg-wash dupe
- Sugar - optional, but highly recommended for that golden crunch
- Optional candy eyes - totally for drama
- Optional dusting of icing sugar - because mummies deserve flair
They’re quick to whip up, fun to assemble (especially with little monsters), and guaranteed to impress at any haunted gathering. And because they’re single-serve, they’re ideal for cutting down on food waste. (See? Even your Halloween snacks can be sustainable.)
Let’s Mummify Some Pastries
1. Roll & slice
Lightly roll your puff pastry sheet, then cut it into rectangles for the base and skinny strips for the mummy bandages. (Keep it wonky - spooky doesn’t do symmetry.)
2. Fill & layer
Spread a generous swoosh of Nutella, layer on your banana slices, then criss-cross the pastry strips over the top. Press the edges to seal. No oozing on our watch.
3. Brush & bake
Brush with dairy-free milk, sprinkle on a bit of sugar, and bake at 200°C for around 12-15 minutes until golden and puffy.
4. Decorate & devour
Cool slightly, add your candy eyes, dust with icing sugar, and prepare for ghostly levels of deliciousness.
Sustainably Sweet & Perfectly Pod-Worthy
Hand pies meet hand-held coffee. We recommend pairing your freshly baked mummies with our Florentino blend - smooth, rich and with just the right cocoa notes to match that Nutella centre. (It’s like a haunted love story in every bite.)
Plus, with minimal ingredients and reusable cups on deck, it’s a dessert that’s scarily good for the planet too. A Halloween win-win.
